HP TouchPad Price

What the HP TouchPad tablet’s price is depends on which memory configuration you choose. You can select either the 16Gb for $399, or the 32Gb configuration for $499. The prices were higher when HP first released its tablet, but they have permanently lowered their prices in an effort to edge the iPad out of 1st place.

For comparison, the 16gb version of the iPad costs $100 more at $499 and the 32GB version goes for $599. No doubt Apple will maintain their place as number one for a while due to their head start, but HP is clearly working hard to make sure that the TouchPad is an appealing alternative.

“Despite the very short runway, we were pleased with customer response and, as a result, have made the decision to implement a $100 price drop on the U.S. list price of the HP TouchPad, enabling both HP and our channel partners to be even more price competitive in the marketplace,” said Stephen DiFranco, HP’s senior vice president of personal systems, in a note to some retailers.

The lower price of the TouchPad means it costs significantly less than the iPad and about the same as Acer’s Iconia Tab that runs on Android, as well as Asus’ Eee Pad Transformer. Android is a nice operating system and works well in smart phones, but it has not translated as well to the tablet format. The Palm WebOs operating system that the HP TouchPad uses works well in the tablet format, meaning that for most people it will be a better choice.
